P-Con V - Brian J Showers

Brian J Showers

Brian J. Showers is originally from Madison, Wisconsin. In 2001 he moved to Dublin where he has lived ever since (if you don't count those nine months in Stockholm). Brian has written short stories, articles, interviews and reviews for magazines such as All Hallows, Supernatural Tales, Trailer Park of Terror, Dead Reckonings, Whispers & Shouts, Ghosts & Scholars, Le Fanu Studies, Machenalia, and Rue Morgue.

Since 2003 he has published chapbooks and booklets as The Swan River Press. In addition to his own ghost stories illustrated by Duane Spurlock and Meggan Kehrli, he has published spectral tales by Peter Bell, Reggie Oliver, Helen Grant and Gary McMahon.

In 2004 Brian's short story "The Old Tailor & the Gaunt Man" was included in Ash-Tree Press's award-winning anthology Acquainted with the Night.

His first book, Literary Walking Tours of Gothic Dublin, was published in 2006 by Nonsuch Ireland. Gothic Dublin details the lives of Charles Maturin, Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu and Bram Stoker, their relation to the city, and the city's influence on them.

Brian's next book, Ghost Stories of Rathmines, is a collection of supernatural tales set in his adopted neighbourhood. The stories draw on the history and folklore of Rathmines, both true and untrue. Mercier Press will publish Ghost Stories of Rathmines in March 2008.
