P-Con V - John Kenny

John Kenny

John Kenny has been co-editor of Albedo One since its inception in 1993 and a fan of science fiction since the late 70s. Before his involvement with Albedo One, he wrote extensively for Stargate, the magazine of the Irish Science Fiction Association and was editor of FTL, the successor to Stargate. Apart from being involved in producing several books published by Aeon Press, he is also a writer of short fiction and has been published in First Contact, Woman's Way, Emerald Eye (an Anthology of the Best of Irish Imaginative Fiction) and others. He is co-administrator of the Aeon Award for Short Fiction. Needless to say, he is currently working on his first novel.

Established in 1993, Albedo One is Ireland's longest running magazine of speculative fiction. Along the way, Albedo One has picked up three European Science Fiction Society Awards and in 2006 the magazine was longlisted for the Hugo Award for Best Magazine. Apart from featuring work from older more established writers such as Brian Stableford, Norman Spinrad, Ian McDonald, Anne McCaffrey, Ian Watson and others, Albedo One has published stories by Liz Williams, Chris Butler, Lauren Halkon, Neil Williamson and many others. The current editorial team consists of Robert Neilson, David Murphy, John Kenny and Frank Ludlow. Roelof Goudriaan, Peter McClean and Brendan Ryder are also involved in various aspects of producing the magazine (layout and design of the magazine, the website, distribution, etc.). A few years ago, Albedo One launched Aeon Press, which has to date published several books, including short story collections This Way Up, Lost Notes and Emerald Eye, a novel The Hand That Takes and graphic novel Spell Maffia. In 2004, Albedo One initiated the first Aeon Award for Short Fiction, which presented a cheque for €1,000 to the winner, Julian West, at Worldcon in Glasgow in 2005. The second Aeon Award was presented at Eurocon in Copenhagen in September 2007.
